The basics

Dashboard overview

The IRIS dashboard gives you a real-time view of your AWS spend across all connected accounts and regions.

Account selector

The left sidebar lists all your connected AWS accounts. Click any account to load its cost data. Each account shows its label (e.g. Production, Dev), AWS account ID, and the regions being scanned. Select All accounts at the top for a consolidated org-level view across every connected account.

Key metrics

Three cards show your headline numbers for the selected account:

  • Month-to-date — actual spend from the 1st of the current month to today, with a percentage change vs the same period last month.
  • Month-end forecast — projected total spend by end of month, with a percentage change vs last month's final bill.
  • Annual run rate — your current monthly spend annualised into a full-year projection.

Cost overview

Daily spend chart

A bar chart of your daily AWS spend over the last 30 days with an average spend per day. Useful for spotting one-off spikes or gradual cost increases.

Services breakdown

AWS services ranked by spend for the current period, each with a proportional cost bar. Click any service to drill into a detailed view of the individual resources contributing to that cost.

Anomalies

IRIS uses AWS Cost Explorer's anomaly detection to flag unexpected cost spikes, showing the affected service, the anomaly period, and the estimated dollar impact. If no anomalies are detected a No anomalies indicator is shown.

Drill down with one click

Every service row, anomaly card, and resource bar in the dashboard is clickable. Most cost investigations start with a click on the top service and end on a single resource — give it a try.

History

The History tab shows your spend over time with up to 12 months of data from AWS Cost Explorer.

  • Monthly spend chart — a bar chart of total spend per month. Click any bar to see the exact total and the percentage change vs the previous month.
  • Period selector — filter the chart to show the current month, last 3 months, last 6 months, or the full 12-month window.
  • Cost by service — a ranked breakdown of spend by AWS service for the current month-to-date, sortable by cost or percentage. Click any service row to jump directly to its resources.
  • Resource cost history Coming soon — will allow tracking of cost over time for a specific resource.

Multiple accounts?

Use the account selector at the top right of the History page to switch between them.

Resources

The Resources tab shows every AWS resource IRIS has scanned, grouped by service, with a projected monthly cost for each.

Supported resource types

EC2 instances, ECS services, RDS instances, ElastiCache clusters, EBS volumes, Lambda functions, DynamoDB tables, EFS file systems, NAT Gateways, Application Load Balancers, S3 buckets, and CloudWatch Log Groups.

Filtering

Use the service and region dropdowns to narrow the list, or search by resource name or ID.

Resource details

Click any resource to open a detail panel showing full metadata including resource ID, ARN, region, creation date, who created it, instance type or configuration, and projected monthly cost.

Badges to look out for

  • NEW — resources created in the last 24 hours so you can spot recently provisioned infrastructure at a glance.
  • Rightsizing hint — where IRIS detects a potential cost saving through rightsizing, an amber badge shows the estimated saving percentage. Click the resource for full details.

Cost bar

Each resource row shows a proportional bar relative to the most expensive resource in that service group, making it easy to see which resources are driving cost within a service.
